Tip
To make sure a silk rug is really silk, take a
little piece and burn it. If it leaves a little stem, it is
silk, if it disintegrates, it is rayon.

PERSIAN CARPETS
Persian carpets are an important part
of Persian art and culture. Weaving Persian carpets is one
of the most distinguished manifestations of Persian
heritage, and dates back to ancient Persia.
Persian carpets can be divided into three groups; Farsh / 'Qālii'
(greater than 6x4 feet in size), Qālicheh (rugs sized 6x4
feet and smaller), and nomadic carpets known as Kilim.
Wool and silk are the most frequently used materials for
weaving persian carpets. Silk carpets are less common than
wool carpets because silk is more expensive and less
durable. Silk persian carpets tend to increase in value with
age and are often displayed on the wall like tapestries
rather than being used as floor coverings. This is due to
their rarity, value and lack of durability.
